How to Clean Your Silhouette Window Shades From Hunter Douglas Window Coverings

Many people wonder how to properly care for their Silhouette Shadings from Hunter Douglas. Believe it or not, as delicate as they look, they can be cleaned fairly easily.

Silhouette Window Shadings are made of 100% polyester, which means they are durable and resilient. This does not mean they can't be ruined. Care is needed to avoid wrinkling the fabric, especially where the vane meets the facings.

Procedures: How To Clean

The Fabric Covered Headrail

Spot-clean the headrail using a sponge or delicate cloth, cool distilled water and a mild soap solution. Handle with care as you would any fine fabric.

Dusting

Regular light dusting with a feather duster is all the cleaning needed in most circumstances.

Vacuuming

Use low suction, hand-held vacuum for more thorough dust removal

Forced Air

Blow away dirt and debris between the vanes using clean compressed air.

Spot-Cleaning Warning

Do not spot-clean Silhouette Window Shadings.

Some Other Options to Consider

Ultrasonic Cleaning

Injection/Extraction

Electrostatic Cleaning - Warning: do not use electrostatic cleaning wipes on any Silhouette Window Shadings.

My opinion only: this could leave residue on the fabric that can damage it or change the color.

Silhouette Window Shadings can be ultrasonically cleaned by a professional, with some exceptions (contact us to find out which Silhouette Window Shadings are not recommended for this method)

  • Specify that a mild detergent solution be used

  • Never immerse the headrail in the solution

  • Dry the shading completely in the lowered position

Silhouette Window Shadings can be professionally cleaned using the injection/extraction method.

  • A dry method of injection/extraction is required for all Bon Soir Fabrics.

  • Never immerse the headrail in the solution.
