Let’s talk about Norman Window Fashions SmartDrapes. Which fabric style is right for your project?
Before we answer that question, you might be wondering what a SmartDrape is. Image a curtain and vertical blind got together and had a baby. The baby would be a SmartDrape. Designed specifically for sliding glass doors, SmartDrapes provide the elegant style of drapery while enabling unimpeded movement through the shades even when they are closed.
Now, let’s get back to fabric styles. First, you have to determine if you want a light-filtering or room-darkening fabric. It is important to note that these categories each have their own colors and patterns.
Room Darkening or Light Filtering?
Typically, our clients will choose the room darkening version of the SmartDrape fabrics only when they require “Blackout” shades. Keep in mind that the room darkening options are made with an extra layer of material, and there is an up-charge for that extra material.
It is also noteworthy that currently there are only four color options for the Room Darkening fabrics. We believe that Norman Window Fashions will add more options in the future, but for right now the current options often require clients to make some compromises. That said, our customers who have selected this fabric have been very satisfied with the final product.
If you don’t require complete darkness, then the light filtering options provide more colors and styles to choose from.
Fashionista Tip: If you want both the room darkening and the stylish patterns, we recommend selecting one of the dark-colored light-filtering fabrics. The darker colors will provide an almost-room-darkening fabric while enabling you to select the style you desire.
Light Filtering Options
The light filtering shades come in four fabric pattern options. These include Pacific, Circle, Plain, and Net. All of these patterns are offered in the same seven colors. The pie chart below shows which patterns our clients generally choose.
As you can see, the majority of our clients choose the Pacific pattern. Currently, we have not used the Net pattern on any of our projects. If you have a SmartDrape with the Net pattern, or if you have installed one on a project, please let us know what you think of it in the comments below.
We hope that this information helps your SmartDrape decision. If you feel that you need someone to guide you through the selection and installation process, please feel free to reach out to us by phone or via one of the contact forms on this website.
