Window Fashions Expert Vs. Window Covering Dealers

Updated: Mar 2, 2022

Most people looking to purchase new window coverings today will likely start with an online search. The results of that search will usually direct them to a large online dealer with an overwhelming number of options to choose from.

The most significant limiting factor in the above scenario is the customer's knowledge of window coverings. The generic descriptions and recommendations often lead people to a simple one-size-fits-all solution.

For example, when you look at these two photos, which window treatment do you like better for this space?

If you said the wood shutters are a richer, more luxurious option, I would agree with you. However, the reality is that many people end up with typical window covering solutions simply because they don't know what other options are available to them.

Many of my clients tell me about their previous experiences ordering from window-covering dealers. When they present their ideas, they often mention that the salespeople tell them that what they want cannot be done. It's not until they talk to a window fashions expert that they find out their ideas are possible.

Window Fashionista tries not to make any assumptions about what you want. We spend time discussing both how the coverings will look and how they will work to accomplish needs. In this instance, we spent a couple of hours fine-tuning the details of this job to ensure the design was functional for the space. Please watch this short video before we discuss the details of this job.

What Influenced the Technical Details of This Project?

Because the shutter is in a location that gets a lot of foot traffic, we needed to keep it from protruding into the walk space. The customer had selected 4-1/2" louvers (the original blinds were 2") with tilt bars. To insert the louvers as deeply as possible into the window openings, I decided to use T-posts.

T-posts are vertical or horizontal posts that connect the shutter frame for added support.

Without the T-posts, the louvers would have hit the existing posts between the windows. This would have required the shutter frame to be extended further away from the windows, impeding the walkway.

The other technical detail had to do with the shutter frame.

  1. First, we needed to cover the existing trim completely to avoid creating contrasting design colors.

  2. Next, we needed to ensure that the trim was deep enough to allow the louvers to insert into the window openings.

  3. Finally, we decided to overlap the existing trim by 3/4" so it is not visible as people walk by.

It's All About the Experience

Hopefully, this example helps you understand the benefits of working with a window fashion expert.

One of the benefits of working with a company like Window Fashionista is that we look at each job from both a designer and installer's perspective. This enables us to address any challenges that might come up and determine the best solution.

The most significant difference between window fashion experts and standard blind companies is that we don't sell commodities. We provide you with an experience. It's an experience that takes the stress off of you and produces the best solution for your project.

Window Fashionista is by no means the only company that provides this level of service. However, the number of window fashion experts is limited.
